Brief description:

This formed part of the boundary to Les Jardin de La Mer contract, it was an ideal site to work in alongside.

La Fregate Café was conceived and the structure based on the outline of a fish. Locally this design was interpreted as an upturned boat, a theme which WEB recognised by having the café opened by Tony Bullimore of South Atlantic fame.

The café was design by the world famous architect Will Alsop working in partnership with local architects Mason Design Partnership. It is of a steel frame construction, being cedar boarded externally, curved on section and on plan.

The café has glazed ends and a glazed roof with coloured glass windows along each side as a break in the cedar boarding. Internally the service pod of the building is light and airy. It incorporated gas operated gull wing doors, access being gained by bridges from the surrounding Les Jardin de La Mer.
