A contract to refurbish an accident and emergency department would test any site manager but for 22-year-old winner of this award it is a role in which he has thrived.
Gareth Bisson is a young man who has seen a rapid career progression in a very short time span and despite being only 22 years old, as site manager he holds a position which carries a great deal of responsibility.
Most impressively for his age, he has proved his abilities on difficult sites, like the Accident and Emergency Department refurbishment, which have required him to take a great many factors into consideration during the construction process. As the site manager such aspects as patient welfare, hygiene and infection control were issues of vital importance which coupled with anti-social hours made the job a particularly challenging one.
He has shown excellent leadership qualities and is well regarded by those who have worked with him.
“I’ve been on this project for over 18 months now and it’s been tough but we have made steady progress and I feel that during the duration I have really improved my knowledge and understanding of the industry along with relationships with the client, operatives and the design team”, said Gareth.
Camerons rightly regard him as one of their rising stars and he has been a successful participant in the company’s training programme since joining them in 2005. He has risen through the company becoming assistant site manager at 19 and subsequently site manager when he was 21.
“I left school at 17 and went straight to Camerons and have steadily progressed under the guidance of experienced site managers which has been a great help. Camerons have always offered support and have allowed me to continue with my education through the day release scheme at Highlands”, he said.
“I’m really pleased to win this award as it makes me feel appreciated for the hard work, time and effort put in by me and my employer. It is especially pleasing to be recognised by fellow professionals”, he said.
Gareth will continue his work with Camerons and with his training and intends to start the degree course in construction management in September 2011.
