Camerons Construction Manager wins National Award

The Construction Manager responsible for Liberation Place and Liberation Station has won a prestigious national award for his work on the project.

Anthony Joubert, Construction Manager with Camerons, was named Construction Manager of the Year 2008 by the Chartered Institute of Building at an award ceremony in London attended by more than a thousand people from the UK construction industry.

Mr Joubert said: "It is a great honour and priviledge to be recognised nationally by the industry, not only for me but for the whole team at Camerons. This was a difficult project involving the construction of an apart-hotel and a bus terminal while maintaining a historic building. This award shows that standards of work that we have in Jersey can be compared with anywhere in Britain".

Mr Joubert was one of three people from across Britain shortlisted for Construction Manager of the Year. Judging took place in May, when the judging panel visited Jersey to view both the Liberation Place and Liberation Station projects and to interview Mr Joubert.

Minister for Economic Development, Senator Philip Ozouf, who attended the ceremony, said: "Despite being short listed, we really weren't expecting that a Jersey project would be recognised in such an impressive way. I think this award acknowledges not only Anthony's management of a complex project but also the calibre of Camerons as a construction firm."

Mr Joubert came to Jersey from his native France in 2000 to work on the Albert Pier housing scheme as project co-ordinator and design manager. He joined Camerons in 2003 as Design Manager and has used his extensive knowledge of innovative European construction methods and supply chains to give Camerons a competitive advantage.

Since joining Camerons he has worked on the Liberty Wharf scheme and has been seconded to the firm's sister company within the Garenne Group, RG Falla in Guernsey to work on the Flagship Develpments in St Peter Port.
