Mock-up helps Jersey’s largest office take shape

A full-size mock-up of the facade of JCN Investment's development at 44 Esplanade, being commissioned by law firm Ogier, has been constructed off site in St Helier.

The building, designed by architects Naish Waddington, plans to be Jersey's largest and "greenest" new office boasting six storeys and aiming to achieve a BREEAM rating of over 60.

Naish Waddington director Mike Waddington, said: "In order to ensure that we get even the finest details right we have constructed the mock-up so that they can be fine-tuned and finessed".

"The mock-up is vital in ensuring we fully understand the various tolerances and setting-out subtleties, so all the steelwork and bracketry is the real thing", added Phil Horsley of Camerons, the main constructor for the project.

Len Stevens of Tillyard, the quantity surveyor and project management firm, said that the team thought it was the first time that a facade mock-up of this scale and complexity had been built in Jersey.
"It gives the design team a chance to really test how the facade will be constructed in detail before everything arrives on site - a sort of dress rehearsal - that we hope will pay dividends in us delivering a first class building", he said.
