Co-op's two new travelators make their grand entrance
It took several months of planning a four-trailer convoy and a police escort but the Co-op has taken delivery of its two new travelators for Grand Marche.
Much of the preparation work - a huge hole had to be made in the floor - was done at night to prepare for the arrival of the 22-metre long travelators on Sunday morning. They each weigh nine tonne and were delivered in two separate sections, ready to be installed on the third floor above the three existing moving conveyor belts.
They were lifted by crane onto the roof of Grand Marche's car park before being moved into place through the specially created gap.
The new travelators will be installed after the shop is closed ready for the opening of the new third-floor car park. The first floor will then be converted ito a ne Homemaker store in 2010.
