Ogier's green building is formally opened

The “greenest” office building in the Channel Islands has been officially opened in Jersey.

Ogier House, the Esplanade, is the first building in the Channel Islands to meet the Building Research Establishment Environment Assessment Method, which sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design.

The building has high levels of insulation, heat recovery sytems, leak detection to avoid waste and water-efficient appliances installed throughout. It also has measures in place to reduce car use.

Ogier Chief Executive Nick Kershaw said: “The opening of our new Jersey office is testament to our approach and commitment to provide the highest quality, integrated and independent legal and fiduciary services to our clients. The new office in Jersey sends out a message that we are a responsible and forward-looking business, embracing the latest technology and environmental standards. We are a top five private sector employer in Jersey and having world-class facilities will help underscore this position.”

The offices have a floor area of 100,000 square feet and can house 500 people with room for future growth, the company said.

The building was officially opened by the Bailiff, Michael Birt, on Wednesday.
