More than 250 runners took part in the RG Falla Quarter Marathon and raised over £5,000 for Help a Guernsey Child on Sunday 23rd May 2010 in Guernsey.
Historically the annual charity has raised funds for a national charity but this year RG Falla has chosen Help A Guernsey Child as the beneficiary.
Prior to the race, RG Falla Managing Director Peter Gregory said ‘RG Falla has been part of the Guernsey community for over 50 years and so it seemed increasingly appropriate for us to support a local children’s charity and the one that clearly stands out is Help A Guernsey Child,’
‘This is the 9th RG Falla Quarter Marathon and we have seen thousands of runners take part over the years and they in turn have raised thousands of pounds to help youngsters in need across the UK. Our parent company, the Garenne Group will once again be entering teams and we hope that teams from other companies, clubs and associations will be amongst the runners on the day. We hope that a record number of runners will take part and raise a record amount of money to help Guernsey’s young people.’
Help A Guernsey Child chairman Jurat Alan Bisson was delighted that the event was raising money for the charity.
‘It is important to remember that Guernsey does have many children who need our help and so it’s fantastic that a company like RG Falla, which has already done so much for the island, has chosen Help A Guernsey Child. Every penny we raise makes a real difference and we hope that will inspire runners as they make their way around the course,’ he said.
Andy Hall, RG Falla and Garenne’s Chief Executive Officer, said they wanted to do something to help local children.
“We like to do things to support local charities and we decided to do it for Help a Guernsey Child because all the money stays on the island”.
The Garenne Trophy, for Garenne Group companies entering a team of at least four runners, was won by Geomarine with their best four runners all being placed in the top 10 and John Greenfield coming second overall.
Camerons (the only overseas team!), composed of Marc Burton (Managing Director), Monika Markowska (Purchase Ledger Assistant, Stuart Green (Senior Quantity Surveyor) and Philip Lane (Trainee Quantity Surveyor), came second.
