Now in its third year the Durrell Dash, sponsored by Camerons, has gained such momentum that Durrell have added a variety of fun runs for Children. Adults keen to do their bit for conservation, can compete in a scenic 13 kilometre race in and around the wildlife park, and youngsters have a choice of 1k, 2k or 3k fun runs.
On Sunday 17th October, over 200 runners took part in the 2010 Durrell Dash, stretching over 13km of beautiful countryside surrounding the wildlife park. Once again, Daniel Hawksworth sprinted across the line in 45 mins 39 seconds claiming 1st place in the men’s category with Jo Garrod leading the women’s group with a superb time of 49 mins 32 seconds.
As well as sponsoring the event, Camerons also sent few members of its team to the Durrell Dash, and they did not disappoint and did everybody at Camerons proud. Peter Le Couilliard led the way in coming 9th in only 51.09 mn, followed by Monika Markowska in 65.02, Philip Lane and Marc Burton.
For the first time this year Durrell held dashes in 3 fun run categories with a route around our wildlife park; 7-9 year old: 1km ; 10-12 year old: 2km ; 13-16 year old: 3km . Over 100 children were cheered on by the animals around the park, especially Ya Kwanza, our silverback gorilla.
Martin Holmes, Chief Executive of Camerons commented “The team are really excited to be part of such a popular event that involves the whole community. It was not a difficult decision to support such a worthwhile cause and we hope our sponsorship can help make a real difference”.
